Prostate Cancer Support Groups

1. Prostate Cancer Support Group Providence Milwaukie Hospital:

Location: 10150 SE 32nd Ave, Milwaukie, OR 97222

Date/Time: First and third Thursdays of the month from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Meetings are facilitated by men. Spouses and significant others are welcome. A guest speaker is featured monthly. Please call Nick Kreofsky, MSW at 503-975-1034.

2. Prostate Cancer Support Group:

Location: OHSU Center for Health & Healing, Paul Kirk Conference Center, 3rd Floor
Date/Time: First Tuesday, Monthly from 5:30 to 7:00pm
Participants: Individuals affected by prostate cancer and their friends and family, Women are welcome to attend

Facilitators:
Peter Bennett, MSW Oncology Social Worker
Erin Tucker, Clinical Research Project Manager, Prostate Cancer Research
Justina Lynch, Nurse Coordinator, Multidisciplinary Prostate Cancer Clinic

The group meetings begin with brief introductions and announcements. When a speaker comes to the group, they will speak for approximately 45 minutes, saving time for questions. The last 30 minutes are reserved for informal check-in and discussion by attendees. Following the group meeting, attendees are welcome to use the comfortable furniture and visit informally in the first floor lobby of the OHSU Center for Health & Healing.

3. Prostate Cancer Friend-to-Friend Program:

This telephone program connects prostate cancer patients who may have had similar experiences with patients who volunteer their time to listen and support you.

A support group for prostate cancer patients offered by Oregon Urology Institute.
First Wednesday of every month, 5:30-7p.m. at OUI's Radiation Center, 1457 G St, Springfield.

8. Men's Writing Group - for men healing from cancer:

This writing group offers a confidential and relaxed setting to write stories in response to exercises. Writers can share their stories with other participants if they choose. This group employs the Amherst Writers and Artists Method.

Caregivers/ Family Members/ Other Support Groups:

1. Family Program Group:

Children and teens who have a family member diagnosed with cancer benefit from a safe environment in which they can express their feelings. Groups are divided by age, with a parent group meeting at the same time. Pre-registration is required; please call Krista Nelson, LCSW, at 503-215-3204 to register and confirm dates. 
Second Thursday of the month, eight months out of the year.
Dinner from 6 to 6:30 p.m., followed by group from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

2. Restoring Intimacy Cancer Support Group:

First Thursday and third Wednesday, 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Salem Hospital Building D, first floor, Gerlinger Support Group Room

For patients and caregivers. Discuss common concerns, share experiences, learn coping skills and reduce anxiety. Meetings will include a short presentation and open discussion. Facilitated by volunteers Dennis Thompson, MSW, and Gerrie Smith-Thompson, who are both cancer survivors.
